Face-Off Review: Maybelline VS Missha BB Cream
9:16:00 PM
This is a post that I should've published a long time ago. I took this pictures months ago but forget all about it. So anyway here is my "very very late" review on the BB Cream craze:
Okay, BB Cream is a big craze right now in Asia, especially in East Asia. The "BB" in BB Cream originally stands for "Blemish Balm", but in some countries it can have different translation, for instance in Korea the "BB" stands for "Beblesh Balm" and here in Indonesia we have a local BB Cream brand that stands for "Blemless Balm Cream" instead of Blemish Balm Cream. Overall, they are all the same.
I'm sure most of you make-up frenzy gals must have been familiar with what BB Cream is all about, but for other readers that might not know about BB Cream yet I'd like to give a little introduction first.
BB Cream is a formula that was originally used by the dermatologist in Germany to assist the process of skin healing after a surgical procedure. The formula is intended to help improve the skin regeneration process after surgery so that the skin surface can be quickly recovered and be smooth again.
Then Korean artists started to use this formula as an everyday beauty ritual, the result is smooth flawless shiny skin that Korean artists are known for. And then since anything "Korean" is currently a big trend in Asia, then the BB cream automatically become a trend too.

The main function is as moisturizer + primer + light foundie or like a tinted moisturizer for your face. You use it on your skin after your skincare routine. BB Cream usually only have one or two shade options but it actually doesn't really matter because they will go for any skin color, they will absorbed into your skin and blend in with your individual shade, creating an all over smooth surface and dewy look.
BB Cream help create a flawless smooth skin like you're wearing a foundation, it sets the powder and brighten your face. It also have skincare formula so when used in a continuous length of time it can result in a much more healthy and attractive skin.
So it helps prep your face before make up, it has a skincare formula that help treat your skin with continuous use, it has the ability to cover your face smoothly like a foundation, and it helps your powder sets in just like a primer. But unlike a foundation this BB Cream has a very light formula so it feels light on your skin, looks very natural, and easy to remove with makeup remover.
Okay, now here is my review on two BB Creams that I've tried. I decided to compare Maybelline (first BB Cream I bought) and Missha (second BB Cream I bought). The Missha BB Cream is a Korean brand which I bought from eBay. This Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream has 2 shades, I chose #23 which is less brighter than the other one because my skin tone is warm tan.

Maybelline Clear Smooth Minerals BB Cream
VS
Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream
VS
Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream
- Missha Perfect Cover has 42 SPF while Maybelline only has 26 SPF.
- Maybelline have a micro-minerals formula infused in the BB Cream while Missha Perfect Cover has an anti-wrinkle formula.
Now let's try it on the skin:
I separate both BB creams with an eyeliner (;p).
The upper one is Maybelline while the bottom one is Missha.
You can see that Maybelline's formula is a bit thicker compared to Missha's. The shade is pretty similar, all BB Creams tend to have shades like this color and it will blend to all skin tones.
Blend it out...
You can see that Missha has a slightly sheer formula so Maybelline definitely has more coverage so it's more perfect for parties or events, the more subtle Missha is perfect for everyday wear makeup.
Almost blended out...
You can see that both BB Creams are blended out nicely to the skin. You can also see that both BB Creams have similar lightening effect that brightens your skin tone a bit so you'll look like you have a bright radiant anti-dull face.
On the face:
Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream
PROs:
Missha has more dewy look quality than Maybelline and more long-wearing formula.
CONs:I once used Missha on a hot sweltering day and i found it heavily oxidized on my skin :(
Maybelline Clear Smooth Minerals BB Cream
CONs: Maybelline needs more extra cleansing when removing makeup at night, because otherwise you will get breakouts.
Overall, I like them both and have been wearing them alternatively everyday. Please bear in mind that this is based on my opinion and how it looks on my skin, so any one might have different experience. For your note: I have combination skin, oily in T-Zone and dry patches on skin. My skin tone is warm / tan.
If you have any further question you can leave it in the comment box below and I'll try to answer it ;)

Misi...
ReplyDeleteMau nanya nih.. Aku 18thn, kulit normal sensitif, kalau pakai make up cuma gatal n merah, kulit agak putih, kuning langsat
jadi tidak pernah makeup
Kira2 BB cream mana yang sesuai untuk aku yang sensitif? Dan sesuai untuk iklim tropis?
Hi Valerie,
Hope this helps.
YURI
