Review: Revlon Lip Butters

As most of you would probably know, I was invited to the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter launching a while back, and I have promised you a post to review the lip butters. So now, here we are.. it's time to review the lip butters! :)

Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters are the new Revlon lip products that just entered Indonesian market. I know this product has been a hit with so many beauty gurus on youtube and beauty blogs out there, and I remember I couldn't wait to get my hands on these lip butters. So now that they are finally here, I am so happy to finally able to review it.

The lip butters are a combination of "Buttery Balm + Shiny Color".

It's a blend of lip balm + lip color in one simple product called : Lip Butters.

It has the moisturizing function of a lip balm, but yet, unlike a lip balm which usually has no color, this lip butters have beautiful shiny color like a lipstick. So what you'll get is a lip color with total moisturizing effect. Perfect for dry lips !

The Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters has 20 colors to choose from, ranging from sheer nude colors to more pigmented colors. The name of the color variants were inspired from sweet candies such as Tutti Frutti, Lollipop, Creamsicle, Cotton Candy, etc..

The Lip Butter has a gel formula that contains a combination of Mango butter, Shea Butter, and Coconut Butter which gives a naturally smooth and hydrated feeling on the lips.

From the launching event I got two lip butters inside my goodie bag. The color was random so everybody receive different colors of lip butters on their goodie bag. And lucky for me, I received some pretty colors that I can wear for everyday use:

I received :

Berry Smoothie (050)

Strawberry Shortcake is a pale pink color, while the Berry Smoothie is a pinkish plum color. The colors look pretty and they were encased in cute little semi-transparant casing where you could see the name of the color on the bottom, and the shade of the color from the top of the case which has a clear part so you can peek inside to see the color.

These lip butters glide on smoothly, thanks to the balmy texture. It feels like you're putting on a lip balm instead of a lipstick, but they tend to be on the sheer side so don't expect a full coverage lip color, but expect a sheer to medium coverage instead (depending on the color you chose). Overall, you'll get a lip color that looks natural with a healthy glow in it.

The lip butters I received are in the pink-berry shade, I'll show you the swatches and how they look on my lips. Note: Incase you want to do a comparison with yourself, my natural lip color is slightly dark and my face skin tone is medium beige.

One to two layers = sheer lip color

Multiple layers = a smooth pigmented color

As I've told you above, the Strawberry Shortcake is a pale pink shade, and the Berry Smoothie is a pinkish berry shade. One layer of the lip butter gave me a nice sheer color on the lips, but I prefer my lips to have more than a sheer color, so I layered them a couple of times more on my lips every time I wore them.

And here's how they look on my lips after several layers:

To get the color on the left pic I applied the pale pink Strawberry Shortcake in multiple layers so that the color will show, otherwise the color would be too sheer or too pale on my lips (because my natural lip color is dark). But I also love wearing it in one to two layers for daily use though. One layer would give an impression of a natural sheen color on my lips >> a big help for my otherwise dark lips ;)

But my favorite amongst the two is definitely the Berry Smoothie because the color is more suited to my skin tone. And it gave my lips a nice healthy look too.

The Strawberry Shortcake is more suited to women with brighter skin tone, because on tan skin the color didn't really show that much unless you layered it for a few times, but it's great if you love natural sheen on your lips for everyday use, just like I do ;)

My take:

I love the balmy texture which is not sticky at all ! These are smooth and creamy, and has a texture of a good lip balm which keep my lips well-moisturized. These are also well-pigmented with a little glossy shine in it (the color variant ranges from sheers to deep color shades). And the colors look gorgeous on the lips!

Even after the color fades, the moisturizer is still there on the lips so it will keep your lips from looking dry. These lip butters are also buildable, so if you think the color is too sheer on your lips, you can re-apply it for a few times until you get the desired color.

So with one lip shade you can get:

a sheer natural color with 1 or 2 layers.
a more pigmented color if you layered it more.

The angled shape of the lip butter also makes application a lot easier, and the colorful casing / cap is cute enough to tote around in my make up bag.

Overall, I love it and would definitely buy more!

Other color I would love to have is the Sweet Tart which I tried on the launching event (and which I think would suit most skin tone), and Tutti Frutti which is an orange color that I also think would suit many skin tones.

Monthly Favorites

a very late JANUARY FAVORITES (and Mini Reviews! )

Back in January, I've been thinking of putting a new monthly post highlighting about my favorite products or items of the month. I noticed that the beauty gurus on Youtube does this every month and I love knowing their fave products so I know which one really works and which ones to try. So based on that experience, I thought I'd also try to share my favorite monthly products, beauty wise. This would include skincare, bodycare, and/or makeup.

I would try to put the post up right after the month is over, for example: for January favorites I would put the post on early February, and so on..

And I know today is almost the end of February but I already made my January's favorite list a while ago, and for some reason I always forgot to put the post up. So again, please forgive my bad scheduling, but before this February ends I thought I'd put the post up anyway.. I hope you don't mind hehehe ;p

My January Favorites

Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner with Aloe Vera

Contains Rose-petal water, un-distilled Witch Hazel extract, Certified Organic Aloe Vera, and Vitamin E. This toner helps to tighten pores, and to smooth and beautify skin without drying.

After reading some rave reviews about it on youtube and makeupalley, I finally decided to try this toner. This toner is Alcohol-free which is why I got interested in the first place. Aside from the alcohol-free part, it's also paraben-free and propylene glycol-free. I've been using this since late December, and I noticed that my skin condition has improved ever since I use this toner religiously every night (and sometimes morning too). I used to have un-even skin tone and dull complexion back in December, but now I noticed that my skin tone is more even and my overall complexion has improved to be brighter than it was. No more dull and dark-looking skin for me ^__^

Made From Earth Rosehip + Hibiscus Organic Face Serum

The benefits: Rose hips are a rich source of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, vitamin C, A, D and E, and antioxidant flavonoids which helps reduce the appearance of scars, fine lines and restoring the skin's moisture balance. Hibiscus is known for its ability to cleanse, tone and balance the skins delicate PH as well as moisturizing skin.

I was skeptical at first whether this serum would do wonder, but surprisingly it does! When I received it in the mail for review purposes I put it on religiously every night (and sometimes in the morning too) after cleansing and before night cream / moisturizer. I did it so I can give good reviews for you guys (you can read my full review here).
And then I always thought that it would take a longer period of time to see if a serum is successful or not, but after only using this for a month, surprisingly my husband told me a couple of days ago, that he notices the smile line around my lips are not there anymore. And that my skin is smoother and no visible lines whatsoever. (I don't have wrinkles yet, but when my skin is dry you can see very very thin lines on my smile line, I guess it's from smiling too much ;p - Oh and also a little bit on my forehead, maybe because I frowned a lot ;p). So anyway, hubby notices that the thin lines are not there anymore, and I credit that to this serum!

L'oreal Spa Energizing Scalp Lotion

Part of the Sensory System, this L'oreal Spa Energizing Scalp Lotion is a blend of energizing formula based on purified water and piroctone olamie that helps to fight dandruff. It leaves hair light, shiny and easy to style.

I LOVE this product! I used to have occasional dry flakes on my hair as a result of itchy scalp that usually caused by either I'm over-stressed or a very hot/humid weather or a combination of both. I'd like to call the condition as "stress-induced dandruff".
I'll tell you about my hair regimen that finally got rid of the stress-induced dandruff in another post, but in the meantime this particular product is definitely an important part of that regimen! Putting this on my scalp and massaging it after a hair-wash really got rid of the itchy feeling on the scalp, it also made my scalp feels fresh with a little bit tingly feeling like I put on some mint on it, very refreshing! And the best part is: it works! So if you have itchy scalp, I recommend using this with anti-dandruff shampoo.

Anastasia Beauty Express for brows and eyes kit

The portable kit contains Brow Powder Duo, Brow Wax, a variety of Stencils, and an Angled Brow Brush with a mirror and instructions, all in one convenient kit. Anastasia is the Hollywood's brow master, she is a brow expert that has shaped the brows of the Hollywood's elites such as Madonna, J-Lo, Selena Gomez, Oprah, etc..

Ever since I found out about filling brows with brow powder instead of using brow pencils I am hooked with it! Using brow powder needs a little bit more time but it sure does give you a more natural look than if you use pencils, and it stays for a longer time too! This kit has been my HG (=holly grail) and I love using it because the result is very natural, it's so easy to use, everything I need is in one practical palette that I can bring inside my makeup bag everyday, and it also include a wax that made it stays even longer. Taman Sari Royal Heritage Green Coconut Conditioner

This hair conditioner is a product from Indonesian premium brand Taman Sari Royal Heritage. It's a hair care product that helps to gain a soft, shiny and easily-combed hair. Made of selected coconut milk, added with aromatic citrus plus vitamin E for healthy hair.

I've spent the last years trying on different hair conditioners that will work with my hair type and will leave trails of fragrant that lasts. And after trying a sample size of this conditioner I'm kinda hooked with it. I love the subtle sweet scent of coconut citrus blend, and I love how the scent actually lingers for a little while. Well it does not last that long though, but it sure does lasts for a few more hours after I washed my hair, other brands usually just lasts for a couple hour and wouldn't make it through half day. I also love that this conditioner has tiny granules on it which is actually vitamin E beads.
What I usually do is I leave it on in my hair for 5 minutes or more, so that the fragrance will last longer. But you need a lot of this product in one lather to cover all of your hair because the texture is easily emulsified and your hair will easily absorb it so you need to re-lather for a couple of times in order to fully covered all parts of your hair. This means: the product will quickly run out.

Red Flower Indian Jasmine Moisturizing Body Lotion

This lotion was created with pure flower extracts, essential oils and nourishing botanicals. It deeply soothes, hydrate, and delicately scent the skin with night-time jasmine flowers. It's a honey-based lotion with wild crafted botanicals and essential oils of tangerine, jasmine sambac, ylang ylang and neroli, enriched with neem extract to heal and purify, rich in vitamin and almond oil to deeply soften and nourish the skin.

At first, when I read the name I was afraid that the jasmine scent would be a little bit over-powering as what I experienced before from jasmine-infused products. (Sebenernya sih saya takut dibilang kaya Suzanna kalo bau nya "terlalu melati banget" hehehe ;p). But it turns out that this lotion is not like that at all. Maybe because the scent is not purely jasmine, it is a blend of jasmine extracts with other essential oils of tangerine, ylang ylang, etc.. so the scent is actually quite nice. And what I love most is how the scent is on the subtle side but somehow it makes you smells good all over. And I also love the texture of the lotion which is easily absorbed by skin, leaving no residue, and it really moisturizes the skin all day. I also love the fact that Red Flower is animal friendly and environmentally kind.

Event: Sariayu Mini Gathering

Dua hari setelah event Revlon kemarin saya juga berkesempatan untuk datang ke event mini gathering nya Sariayu. Lokasi nya di Sate Khas Senayan di FX - Sudirman. Acaranya mulai jam 10.00 pagi sampai sekitar jam 13.00 siang.

Waktu itu saya dapat undangan via twitter. Ketika datang masing-masing peserta diberi satu goodie bag dan sticker yang bertuliskan nama kita, trus ditempel di baju deh, supaya mempermudah proses perkenalan. Jadinya saya udah tau duluan nama-nama orang yang duduk semeja sama saya. Kebetulan hari itu saya satu meja sama Vika, Ika, dan Winda. Setelah ngobrol-ngobrol kecil sambil makan kudapan yang disediakan, tim Sariayu pun segera memulai acara dengan perkenalan yang langsung dilanjutkan dengan penjelasan tentang dasar-dasar skincare untuk wajah.

Setelah penjelasan tentang jenis kulit wajah (diriku kombinasi oily), kami juga diajarkan step-by-step cara melakukan facial sendiri yang dapat dilakukan di rumah tanpa perlu ke salon. Tadinya saya sempat berpikir "wah, kalo di facial nanti ini makeup gw keapus semua dong, masa nanti keliling mall dengan muka polos?". Ah tapi karena penasaran saya pun tetap ikut proses facial nya, rugi dong kalo nggak ikut ^o^

Dengan menggunakan produk-produk yang sudah disediakan di dalam goodie bag kami (lengkap dengan kapas dan tissue), ditambah dengan produk-produk lain yang diberikan oleh tim Sariayu seperti masker, scrub, handuk basah dan lain sebagainya, kami pun memulai rangkaian self-facial yang dipandu oleh tim Sariayu.

Setelah diajarkan gerakan membersihkan wajah yang benar, kami pun melanjutkan dengan aplikasi scrub dan masker, lalu disuruh pejamkan mata, menikmati masker sambil diiringi alunan musik lembut (berasa lagi di salon). Setelah itu baru wajah dibersihkan kembali, dan lanjut dengan memakai pelembab serta bedak. Setelah itu ketakutan saya terjawab sudah hehe karena kemudian tim Sariayu membagikan palet makeup trend warna Sariayu di meja masing-masing sehingga kita bisa melanjutkan memakai blush on dan lipstik agar wajah kembali oke seperti sebelum facial tadi hehehe

Dan hasil akhirnya malah lebih bagus dari wajah saya tadi pagi deh rasanya ;p Karena setelah di self-facial muka saya jadi kelihatan lebih segar dan kinclong, makeup juga rasanya lebih nempel dan kulit jauh lebih haluusss..

Ga rugi deh saya bela-belain pagi-pagi dari Ciputat ke FX Sudirman untuk acara ini hehehe

Oiya, di mini gathering ini tim Sariayu juga memperkenalkan produk andalan terbarunya yaitu seri Putih Langsat, yang cocok untuk segala jenis kulit. Soalnya itu box door prize nya lumayan gede, kayanya ada macam2 produk disitu. Dan setelah pembagian door prize, acara mini gathering ini pun selesai sudah.

Dan sebelum acara berakhir, terakhirnya apalagi kalau bukan foto-foto bersama seluruh peserta dan tim Sariayu yang hadir :)

Oiya, Sabtu besok tgl 25 February, Sariayu bakal menggelar Beauty Class akbar ! Tempatnya di Plenary Hall dan katanya targetnya akan ada 3000 orang peserta, wow! Fee nya cuma IDR 50.000 dan bakalan dapet Beauty Kit senilai IDR 98.000 (+ kaos dan snack). Siapa yang ikutan?
