Why Women Love Shoes

Why is it that women have a relentless
urge to shop for shoes, and have more shoes in their wardrobes than any other
item? Like fish and chips or strawberries and cream, women and shoes seem to
just go hand in hand. But why?
Mood boosting
Buying a new pair of shoes is similar
to eating a bar of chocolate – it produces feel-good hormones
which give women a temporary high. Whilst the same could be said about buying a
new dress or a new pair of jeans, many women tend to buy shoes more often than
any other item of clothing – probably because they rationalise shoes in their
minds as being a practical and required purchase. Hence, the tendency for many
women’s wardrobes to be crammed full of shoes!
Take, for example, Clarks womens shoes. The Clarks brand is associated with quality, style and longevity,
and offers a beautiful range of on-trend footwear that combines both comfort and
style. It is this winning combination of practicality, comfort, style and
sophistication that women can’t seem to resist. Clark’s women’s shoes remain a
popular choice season after season, and year after year.
They add height
Women’s shoes, unlike most men’s
shoes, have a heel attached – perfect for giving them extra height and encouraging
feelings of power and superiority. As Helen Fisher, a professor in anthropology
at Rutgers University said: “High heels can literally raise your status because
you’re taller when you wear them.”
Not only do high heels give women an
elevating feeling of power, they are also a historical sign of status and
wealth. In the past, high heels were traditionally worn by the higher classes,
whilst flat shoes were worn by labourers and the lower classes. These
connotations of wealth and status are likely to be an underlying mindset,
ingrained into modern society.
Shoes exude sex appeal
Whether they’re a single lady, on a
girls’ night out looking for a hot date, or are happily married, many ladies
wear shoes as a way of radiating attractiveness and sex appeal. From stiletto
heels that make legs look longer and slimmer, to a pair of knee-high boots worn
with skinny jeans, many women use shoes to heighten their sexuality and
attractiveness.
The Clarks Spring/Summer collection
includes a range of sizzling stilettos that are guaranteed to get pulses racing
this season.
